Another Auld Lang Syne

That week between Christmas and New Year’s is typically quiet — half the staff is on vacation, the telephones are quiet, clients are stuck in snow storms in Manhattan. I am in the office this week to finish up some projects, cover for vacationing employees and attend to any end of year ‘closing of the books’ needs. I also have a minute or two for reflection.

I reflect on the year now winding down, and ponder what is to come. How was 2010? Despite continuing stories of economic stress, Digital Research has had much to celebrate. Sales were strong. We brought on more new clients this year than we have in recent memory. We continued to work with the clients who we love and have gotten to know and appreciate over the years. We won an industry award (EXPLOR, that is). We spoke at four different industry conferences, published articles and taught webinar classes. Yes, a lot to celebrate, and so much for which to be grateful.

So, as I mentally move from 2010 to 2011, I’m forming what will be my New Year’s resolution — Gratitude. Yes, just one word, but one that is hopefully very powerful. I resolve to do a better job of:

Expressing gratitude to the staff here at Digital Research. They are so passionate about what they do and work so hard. Our company wouldn’t be what it is today without them.

Being grateful for the wonderful clients who put their trust in us. Words can’t express how exciting it is to be tasked with the job of solving our clients’ business problems.

Letting my family know how important they are to me. Without my family’s support and foundation, I couldn’t be here today — doing what I love to do.

Engaging in my community to help where I can. We all have an obligation to give back where we can. Trust me. You’ll get more out of it than you give.

Challenging myself every day to be a better person. As I tell my children, “Perfection is boring.” However, the pursuit of such a goal is how we grow and mature.

Here’s to a wonderful 2011 for you and yours. Thank you for reading.
